Journal of Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (JKAHS) is an official Journal of Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, a Government organization of Nepal established on October 20, 2011 AD (2068/07/03 BS), by an Act of parliament of Nepal by upgrading existing Karnali Zonal Hospital at Jumla.
2. AIM AND SCOPE OF THE JOURNAL
Journal of Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (JKAHS) is an indexed, internationally peer-reviewed and open accessed journal that is published three issues per year in online as well as in printed version. The journal aims to become one of the leading journals of health sciences that provide a scientific forum for publishing and discussing the scientific ideas and clinical as well as professional experiences in the field of health sciences.
The journal publishes the entire range of research articles from original research article, review article, case report, short communications, letter to editor, etc related to health sciences, especially the research related to basic sciences (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology), clinical sciences (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology/Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Forensic Medicine), Public health and Nursing Sciences.
3. INDEXING AND ABSTRACTING AGENCIES
JKAHS has been indexed to the online database of Nepal Journal Online (NepJol), Google Scholar (GoogleScholar), Nepal Medline (NepMed), and CrossRef. The Individual articles will provide a separate DOI number as a unique identifier on the title page of each article. DOIs are useful for identifying and citing articles published online without volume or issue information.
4. PUBLICATION FEE/CHARGE
The journal is open access and free for submission and publication of the research articles related to health sciences. It does not charge any cost for submission, processing, and publication of manuscripts even for color reproduction of photographs. All the expenses from the peer-reviewing process to the publication of the articles from online to print version is supported and sponsored solely by Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) and made the journal’s full text is available online at https://jkahs.org.np.
5. EDITORIAL POLICIES
Any manuscript submitted to the journal of Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (JKAHS) must be plagiarism free and not be published in any journal, or under consideration of publication in any other journal or other citable forms. Authors are required to ensure that no material submitted as part of a manuscript infringes existing copyrights or the rights of the third party.
6. ETHICAL GUIDELINES
A statement to ethical approval must be appeared in the Methods section of the manuscript, including the name of the body from which approval has been provided, with a reference number where appropriate. Informed consent must also be documented. For all articles that include information or clinical photographs relating to individual patients, written and signed consent from each patient to publish must also be made available if requested by the editorial board. The involvement of scientific (medical) writers or anyone else who assisted with the preparation of the manuscript content should be acknowledged, along with their source of funding. JKAHS requires authors to declare any competing financial or other interest in relation to their work. All competing interests that are declared will be listed at the end of published articles. Where an author provides no competing interests, the listing will read 'The author(s) declare that they have no competing interests.
7. PEER-REVIEW PROCESS AND POLICIES
We adopt the double-blind peer-review process for reviewing all the manuscript before publication. All submitted manuscripts are first evaluated by editorial-board and appropriate manuscripts are then selected for further peer-review process. The managing editor assigned at least two reviewers (national and international) for their review and comments. Authors are asked to provide names and contact details for two reviewers; however, the final selection of reviewers is the responsibility of the managing editor.
The JKAHS follows the double-blind peer-review process. The identity of the author kept a secret from the editor and the identity of the editor kept confidential from the author; for avoiding biases for peer-reviewers, ensuring the standard of quality requires for the article before acceptance for publication. We make every effort to reach an initial decision within two to six weeks of submission, depending on the type and clarity of research work, research methodology used, availability of reviewer, etc. Based on the review process, the editorial-board can reject, accepts or accept after revisions of the manuscript.
8. DIGITAL ARCHIVING POLICIES
The JKAHS provides for long-term digital preservation through two primary partnerships, Portico and CLOCKSS. Portico is a leading digital preservation service worldwide. The content is preserved as an archival version and is not publically accessible via Portico, but is provided when required under specific conditions, such as discontinuation of the collection or catastrophic failure of the website.
CLOCKSS will enable any library to maintain its own archive of content from ICRP and other publishers, with minimal technical effort and using cheaply available hardware.
9. PLAGIARISM POLICY
The plagiarism is an act of copying someone's theories, ideas, or statements without giving the explicit acknowledgment to the author of the original source. It is assumed unethical in scientific writing. The editorial board of Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (JKAHS) will not accept the manuscript with plagiarism in any form. We have established the following policy stating specific actions (penalties) when plagiarism is identified in an article that is submitted for publication in JKAHS.
Every manuscript submitted to JKAHS must be original, unpublished, and not even pending for publication in other journals. Any text with someone's view, idea, findings should be explicitly acknowledged and any photograph, figure and graphic material reproduced from another source should be presented with permission from the person or copyright holder.
Identification of Plagiarism
We use online plagiarism checker software to check for plagiarism in all submitted manuscripts. On the basis of the result obtained from the software, the Managing Editor will decide whether to accept the journal and proceed for the further peer-review process or reject the manuscript from the editorial round. Moreover, we will recheck the plagiarism during the review process by the technical reviewers assigned to the manuscript. When plagiarism is identified, the Managing Editor will review the manuscript and find out the degree of plagiarism under the following guideline and the Editor-in-Chief will take action accordingly.
1. Plagiarism Offense Type I (Minor Offense): If some portion (less than two complete or part of it) of any article is plagiarized without significant data or idea, then it is assumed to have minor plagiarism offense. Penalties: The last warning with the possibilities of penalties of type II and type III offense is given to the author(s) and a request to rewrite the plagiarized contents of the manuscript with proper citation of the original article.
2. Plagiarism Offense Type II (Intermediate Offense): If a significant portion (more than two complete or less than 25% of the total content) of any article is plagiarized without significant data or idea, then it is assumed to have intermediate plagiarism offense. Penalties: The submitted article is rejected and the author(s) is/are not allowed to resubmission the manuscript.
3. Plagiarism Offense Type III (Severe Offense): If a significant portion (more than 25% of the total content) of any article is plagiarized with significant data or idea, then it is assumed to have severe plagiarism offense. Penalties: The paper is rejected and the author(s) is/are kept in the blacklist for 3 to 10 years of time depending on the severity of the plagiarism.
10. OPEN ACCESS PUBLICATION
The JKAHS is an open-access journal under Creative Commons Licensing. The articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-Share Alike 4.0 License, which allows others to remix, tweak, and build upon the work non-commercially, as long as appropriate credit is given and the new creations are licensed under the identical terms.
11. CONFLICT OF INTEREST
The JKAHS will disclose the conflict of interest (if any present) among the authors in the article info of individual articles published. Similarly, the source of support or fund/grant taken (if any) is also disclosed in the article info of the article.

13. PRIVACY AND COPYRIGHTS POLICIES, AND LICENSING AGREEMENTS
The JKAHS operates under the principle of data minimization where only the minimal amount of personal data that is required to carry out a task is obtained. The names and email addresses used during the manuscript submission and publication in this journal and its website will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
Our Journal adopts to retain the copyright with authors under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. The Creative Commons (CC) license enables the users with the right to share, use, free distribution, and build upon a work that they have created. The corresponding authors of all the articles published in our journals are responsible for completing and returning the signed Open Access Agreement to the editorial office as the mandatory steps during the process of manuscript submission. All articles of our journal are published under the Creative Commons license retaining the copyright to the authors and the public is allowed to use, reuse, share, and distribute the content of the article.

14. MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION
Manuscripts should be written in English that should be in an acceptable form. Spelling can be British or American, but consistent throughout the manuscript has to be maintained. Submissions of the manuscript should be done via online manuscript submission by following this link; https://jkahs.org.np/jkahs/index.php/jkahs/about/submissions. Manuscripts must be submitted in electronic version only. MS- Word 2007 documents, as well as older file types, are welcome. The manuscript should be in Times New Roman Font Style with 12 Font Size and typed double-spaced throughout with at least 2.5 cm margins on all sides. Pages should be numbered consecutively, beginning with the title page.
